A house with a stunning view over the Elbe.

Five buildings follow one another along the Polder, the solid flood protection structure on the shore of the River Elbe in Neumühlen, like a pearl necklace. The central pearl is the office building Neumühlen No. 17 / 19.

It opens out towards the Elbe with generous spaces and a high degree of transparency. It offers the optimal basis for the creation of a free and relaxed working environment in the offices. And the optimal ambiance for a highly unusual restaurant.

To implement the challenging architectural concept, a supporting structure was designed that required a high degree of civil engineering skill. Outstanding features are the two extraordinary c. 10 m wide projections towards the Elbe. In spite of their slenderness, the reinforced concrete cantilever slabs carry three office storeys with ease.

Complex calculations of deflection behaviour were necessary for this in the planning phase. The results of the calculations were also impressively confirmed by ongoing measurements of deflection behaviour during the construction phase.

New connection following old traditions.
